With the Google Tag Manager, online marketing professionals without programming knowledge can easily analyze and optimize their own website fast and easy. Our plugin Inpsyde Google Tag Manager, which we would like to introduce today, integrates Google Tag Manager into WordPress websites and makes it even easier to use this powerful tool. How does Google Tag Manager work exactly? And what is the plugin Inpsyde Google Tag Manager? These and more questions will be answered in this post.
In Detail: What is the Google Tag Manager?
This means that you can use the Google Tag Manager independently to integrate tracking or advertising into your website, without having the need to use a programmer. In one place you can collect all your web analytics tools and manage them centrally.
How does Google Tag Manager work?
To use Google Tag Manager, you need to integrate the Google Tag Manager Code into your website once (but more info below). And you need a Google Tag Manager account.
If you’ve added the code snippet to your website, Google Tag Manager and your website are linked. The Google Tag Manager interface lets you set up the code snippets to install your analytics tools and define what events to display.
In addition, the Google Tag Manager provides a data layer. You can think of the data layer as a cache between your website and the Google Tag Manager, where both can write and access data.
How do I use Google Tag Manager?
Once you created a Tag Manager Account, you will next create a new Container. Then you will receive a code snippet that you need to add to your website (more info below). You can create as many containers as you like, but for a website only one container is necessary. Everything is managed there.
Then you can use the Google Tag Manager interface to set up tags, triggers, and variables. Are you hearing the terms for the first time? No problem, here is a short explanation for each term.
A tag is a code snippet that you would normally include in the source code of your website. With a tag you define to which web analytics tool the data shall be sent. You can choose all common standard tags – you don’t need to code anything.
A trigger defines the conditions that must exist to trigger a tag. This can be, for example, an interaction on the website or a specific period of time.
You can define variables in Google Tag Manager to refine your query. You can choose between predefined variables or determine some for yourself.
