Velmurugan lives in Chennai, India.
How would you describe yourself?
I’m someone who wants to learn new things in the most original way possible. Curiosity drives me the most. You can learn a lot just by doing it. It’s not about just learning conventionally at a school or university. A lot comes from starting and not worrying too much about whether it’s going well or not. The hardest part is always “just” the beginning. Therefore, I see myself as a highly motivated person who is always inquisitive and puts his projects into practice.
How do you spend your spare time?
In my free time, I like to read books. I am particularly interested in the history of the Middle Ages. It was an exciting era all over the world. I then think my way into that time and imagine how people lived and worked back then.
When I’m not reading, I play online chess against virtual opponents. This strengthens my concentration and planning skills. I can fully immerse myself in it and forget about the world around me.
I also really like meeting up with my friends. We prefer to go to the cinema and watch the latest films on the weekends.
What is important to you?
Both physical and mental health are very important to me. You don’t think about yourself so much when you’re doing well. But as soon as you experience difficult times, you can appreciate it so much more when your own body is healthy. For me, mental health follows a healthy body.
That’s why I’ve been doing sports from home for a while now. So I stay not only physically healthy, but also enjoy good mental health. A win-win situation!
Velmurugan’s way to Inpsyde
I’ve been a freelancer for most of my career, doing all things information technology and doing a lot of programming. My hobbies were mainly websites for various clients.
I taught myself all this. I’m very interested in learning and growing and don’t shy away from motivating myself and developing greater discipline. So I got more and more specialized with WordPress knowledge.
I came to Inpsyde by looking for WordPress jobs on a job board. The position as a PHP developer immediately caught my eye. I was therefore very happy about Inpsyde’s job offer because I can pursue my passion for WordPress projects here and learn new things.
I’m a person who worked alone in a kind of bubble as a freelancer. My goal is to work as a team, learn from my colleagues, and contribute to the team in any way I can. I am sure that I can perfect my IT skills, especially WordPress, at Inpsyde!
Of course, I also looked at the Inpsyde homepage when I was researching the job and was really enthusiastic about working in globally distributed teams, the company values, and the projects. Anyone would like to belong to such a company!
My colleagues warmly welcomed me, and I received great support from the start. There are various documents that I have looked at and meetings in which tasks and working methods are explained to me. I feel very comfortable here!

What was the best advice you ever got? Who gave it to you?
Study hard what interests you the most in the most undisciplined, irreverent, and original manner possible. It is a quote by Richard Feynman.
What do you like most about your city?
I like our Marina Beach in Chennai. It’s just nice to hang out, watch people, or visit the monuments nearby. For this reason, many tourists come here. But that just makes it all the more interesting to me.
What is your favorite smartphone app?

What is the best meal you can cook on your own?
It’s actually not really a dish, but I really like cooking curd rice. As the name suggests, it consists of rice, curd, and a little salt. It is extremely hot around nine months of the year here, so the curd rice, which is usually served cold, is a welcome, nutritious refreshment. Of course, you can always combine it with other ingredients if you wish.
You get stuck in the elevator for many hours and there’s a song playing in a continuous loop. What song would that be?
