IN THE MIDDLE with SPORT1: The leading 360° sports platform in German-speaking countries stands for high quality live sports, proven sports expertise and well-founded and entertaining reporting. The umbrella brand SPORT1 is embodied by Sport1 GmbH, a Constantin Medien AG company, which combines all free and pay TV, online, mobile, audio and social media activities. SPORT1 now also demonstrates the diversity of the sports landscape on its new podcast portal, which was implemented in cooperation with Inpsyde.

SPORT1: Pioneer as Digital Media House
Even though podcasts are a popular topic in 2019, SPORT1 has long been active in the audio sector as a media house. As part of its 360° strategy, the company has been focusing for years on integrating different types of media and connecting TV, radio and the web. No wonder that the media professionals are right in the middle of podcasts instead of just being there.
From classic subjects such as football or ice hockey to lifestyle topics, some successful formats are already in the programme.
And that’s just the beginning, as there are already other exciting formats in the planning stage that will also cover sports such as volleyball or the growing field of eSports.
What was so far missing to the successful podcasts “CHECK24 Doppelpass”, “Spielerfrauen on air”, “Die Eishockey Show”, “Lieber Fußball” and “Split IT” was a common home – which has now been created with www.sport1-podcast.de.
The challenge was to create a platform that is just as intuitive for the users as Spotify or iTunes and that fits seamlessly into the corporate design of SPORT1. The demand for a perfect result was high, because the user should hardly notice the change to the campaign page.
The portal is an initiative of SPORT1’s New Business division and a platform for the media company’s diverse podcasts. A flexible platform was deliberately needed that would allow the campaign site to develop at the same speed as the fast-paced media business.
WordPress as Content Management System (CMS) is the ideal solution for such a portal. Because different podcast hosts can be integrated into the CMS and it is so widespread that every editor and user can find his way around without much training.
We can implement the content ourselves in the CMS, nobody needs an IT degree for that.
